Pirates vs Orioles, PNC, 6/21/2011
Today would be another very crowded day with the Pirates honoring the 1971 World Series victory over the Orioles, and they gave away a commemorative stein, plus the Oriole fans were still in a mass.
Today we got to talk a little with Avi, and Zevi from Baltimore. I noticed a nice catch from Avi on a Derek Lee hr, but all PNC and Baltimore ballhawks would have a hard time navigating the small bleacher area with the big crowd. It was cool to meet some new ballhawks and we considered times to come to Baltimore later in the season.
My first ball of the day, after another short and lame Pirates bp was from who else but, the Man, Heberto Andrade as he tossed me Ball#1 from along the lf line. Thanks again, with that toss up Herbie passed up Andrew Mccutchen on my all time player list.
Along with Adam Jones, my second most preferred player to get a ball from was VLAD, and he would come through for me in a megabomb kind of way.
First VLAD megabombed a ball to left center into the upper bleachers on the fly which had to have been at least 450 ft, I hustled up the steps as it rolled gently right to me for Ball#2.
In the upper bleachers to the right of this pic is where the hr landed.
The next VLAD bomb was more of a high majestic shot that landed about five rows deep in the upper bleachers again, being that I was playing him on the cross walk right below the steps to the upper bleachers where he hit it I was able again to hustle up the steps to grab the VLAD bomb.
The crowd continued to grow and the space to ballhawk continued to shrink, and I wasnt able to get any more balls during the bp off the bat of Reynolds or Lee.
While at the bullpen after the major tribute to the 1971 World Series team bullpen coach Euclides Rojas must have wanted to treat the fans with some balls as he grabbed three out of the bag and started throwing them up, without my glove I bare handed the one he threw straight up to me for Ball#4.
Here is where I was, I was unable to get a pic of him as he headed toward the bench under the wall.
Later on I noticed a little guys brother trying to get him a ball from the Orioles pen, with none of them paying any attention so I decided to give him one of mine, it was his first MLB ever, check him out.
That was it for the day, personally, I cant wait till interleague play is over, the crowds are insane, and although it gives us chances to get balls from cool All Star players we never see, I dont think its worth it, and I am of the notion that the AL should meet the NL once, in the World Series.
Here are todays two VLAD bombs, with yesterdays Adam Jones toss up.
Two balls given away today.

Interestinging. I don’t know whether it is the fact that there are two teams here or what but interleague play really doesn’t make the crowds spike in New York. I guess it is sort of like a promotion day or something to Pirates fans as it provides a change of pace to the ways they have learned to dread. Unless it’s something else. Personally I would be in favor of 15 teams in each league. You see they put 16 teams in the NL because in the days where there was no interleague play two teams would have to have the day off every day. What I suggest is that th schedule be worked out so the only interleague games be against their rival team in the other league (I.e. LAD vs. LAA). That way they wouldn’t be a month but rather like any other games in the schedule as they are between familiar teams.
